Human Factors consultation

As I completed my MS in Human Factors and Ergonomics, I had the privilege of working at Interface Analysis Associates with my professor Dr Anthony Andre. There I performed usability testing, research, and design for a wide variety of clients from consumer electronics, web, social media, aerospace, automotive, biomedical industries. As a Usability Engineer, my duties included:

  • User Research - Designing, Coordinating, Moderating, Analyzing both qualitative and quantitative user studies.

  • Heuristic Analysis - Using proven usability heuristics to quickly evaluate a product and provide actionable suggestions.

  • Interaction Design - I provided wireframes and visual designs, both to visually articulate our suggested design improvements and to take to final development.

  • Front End Development - On several occasions I coded HTML/CSS layouts out of our designs and worked directly with development teams to integrate them into product.

Some examples of projects I had the privilege to work on:

philips heartstart Automated External defibrillator

Irreversible brain damage starts to occur after 90 seconds of a stopped heart. We conducted user tests to improve the efficacy of both the instructional and physical design of both the physical and instruction design of AEDs.

BMW in-dash display controls

We designed and conducted research into the cognitive load of several proposed in-dash display menus. Using these findings we advised the design team on improving the safety of in-dash display controls.

user testing medical products

We user tested and provided input to the design of medical devices such as insulin pumps, continuous glucose monitors, automated injectors, and heart pumps.

NOVint Falcon Haptic game controller

The Falcon was designed to provide immersive haptic feedback for gaming. While not used much when it was first designed, it has recently found a second life as an ideal controller for VR applications.
